The Start Of Something New...

Welcome to the beginning of my blog, where I will post my entire journey of creating my magazine (which I am pretty excited for). After researching different magazine topics, I have decided to do a food magazine. I really want to take some vibrant photos of food, and I mean who doesn't like food?

To start my research I looked up what some of the more popular food magazines are. I found this great article on some of the best food magazines. Some of my favorites include Saveur, Bon Appetit, Eating Well, and Food & Wine. While looking at some of the covers of these magazines, I noticed that they all use the same 3 techniques to make their magazine more appealing/engaging:


1.Bright, Vibrant Colors

2. Full of Texture

3. Bright Lighting




I really want to apply these techniques to all of the pictures I take of food, so I'm going to keep these techniques for later. 

I have also been thinking about what I want my food magazine to be about. While I was looking at the Saveur cover, I noticed that it says "25 Delicious Foods From Around the World." The "Around the World" part gave me the idea to make my food magazine a travel issue. What I mean by travel issue is having articles about the best places to eat around the world (ex. pizza, donuts, burgers, etc.). So far it is just a shell of idea but I think I'm going to stick with it and see what else I come up with.

Another thing that I have been thinking about is the name of the magazine. I really wanted to make it about guilty pleasure foods because after I photograph it I can eat it, and honestly salad isn't very interesting. So just yesterday I was sitting in the chair in my room when I suddenly had an epiphany. I should call it Treat Yourself. It fits the travel issue idea since you are "treating yourself around the world." Plus, treat yourself is a cool name. It reminded me of the Parks & Rec episode where Donna and Tom have "Treat Yo Self" Day.

Well so far that is all the ideas I have. Don't worry, though, because I have plenty more that I will be sharing.
