This tells me that I can go either way with my color scheme. I think it just depends what food is on the cover. The pie/whipped cream is on the dark cover so it stands out, and the pasta foods are on bright covers in both magazines so it is the first thing you see.
For my cover, I have to pick a location and the food at the restaurant that is featured there. I think the place I am going to do is New Orleans because it is such a vibrant place and will be engaging. Plus, it happens to be a trip on the Women Traveling Together website that is almost sold out, which means it is a popular place to go to.
Since I chose New Orleans, I am going to use beignets as my the food on my cover. Beignets are I researched most popular foods in New Orleans on this website. On this website, I also found out that:
Point Chaud De Beignets (Hot spot of beignets)
Meilleurs Beignets De l'univers (Best beignets of the universe)
Café Du Délicieux (cafe of the delicious)
I am going to use a light color scheme so I emulate the light, airy feel of the beignet. This is what a beignet looks like:
I really like the teel/light blue color, so I want to include it in my color scheme. I also like the gradient of the beignet's dough in this photo.
Here is an example of the type of color scheme I want to do:
I am not sure whether I want it to look more greenish, so I am still deciding between the two.
Based on the color scheme, I also have to decide on the color of the font for my masthead.
(I have 3 different font choices for my masthead, and I am going to use each of them in a mock cover and decide which one I like best). I think the negative space look that I mentioned in one of my older blog postings could look good:
I really like the look of this, except I wouldn't have it look liquidy. I might do the negative space based on the powdered sugar of the beignet being sprinkled on the top everywhere.
There is still a lot to be decided for my magazine, but at least I have the color scheme mostly planned out. In my next blog posting I am going to talk all about layout. Here is my schedule for this week's blog postings:
